Allbirds is part of CNN Underscored’s Deals Fest, our two-day, exclusive sales event featuring steep discounts on 28 of our favorite products — available only to CNN Underscored readers. To see the full list of deals, click here.

Allbirds has been around for quite a few years now, but the brand that’s known for making “the world’s most comfortable shoes” is showing no signs of slowing down.

Founded in 2014 by New Zealand native Tim Brown, Allbirds has been defined by simple design and comfortable construction since the beginning. The brand first saw success as a Silicon Valley staple (which makes sense for the San Francisco-based startup). But the sneakers have quickly racked up popularity with celebrities like Jessica Alba, fashion icons like Sarah Jessica Parker and even environmentalists like Leonardo DiCaprio. Today, you’ll see Allbirds on everyone from college students to busy parents, dancers, nurses and others who are constantly on their feet.

But the internet-famous shoes don’t come cheap: The majority of styles start at $95. And the brand makes a lot of different claims about the quality, comfort and maintenance level of its shoes. That’s why we’ve broken down everything you’ll want to know before you invest in your own pair of Allbirds.

In short, extremely. The sole of an Allbirds shoe is made from a proprietary low-density foam that contributes to the shoe’s extremely lightweight feel, its main distinguisher from other typical sneakers. The shoes’ insoles are made from a proprietary merino wool fabric that gives Allbirds its signature “walking on a cloud” sensation. The wool fabric is billed as both moisture-wicking and odor-minimizing (more on that later) and is also used on the outside of the Wool Runners, Wool Mizzles and Wool Loungers.

When it comes to everything a shoe can do for you, Allbirds claims to be able to do a lot. Here’s a quick breakdown of how some of them stacked up against our testing and experience with the Wool Runners, Tree Runners and Tree Toppers.

So soft you can go sockless: You can definitely wear Allbirds sockless. The Wool Runners, in particular, are super soft and feel almost slipperlike without socks. They’re a breeze to just slip on and off, making them our quick and convenient shoe of choice for everything from running errands to heading to a workout like yoga or swimming.

However, if you’re planning to spend a full day on your feet, we recommend wearing socks — purely to maintain the soft and comfy quality of the shoes.

Minimizes odor: When worn with socks, it was almost impossible to detect any odor despite long days and even moderate exercise. This is in part due to the temperature control abilities of the material. Even without socks, we barely experienced any odor. That may be due to Allbirds’ merino wool material, with wool being a naturally odor-resistant material. It also holds up well against sweat and bacteria, which helps to minimize any long-term odor.

Temperature control: If you suffer from sweaty feet or plan to wear your Allbirds throughout the summer, definitely opt for one of the Tree models. They’re super lightweight, breezy and all-around great for hot temperatures. While the Wool Runners are lightweight as well, and fine for warmer climates, they impressed when it came to keeping our feet warm and cozy during the cold Northeastern winter. If you’re going to be trekking in any slush or snow, just be sure to opt for the Wool Mizzles over the Wool Runners, since they feature a weather-repellent Puddle Guard to keep your feet dry.

The big question: Can you just toss these in the wash? Surprisingly, yes. Washing your Allbirds is a great way to prevent odor or stains, especially if you wear them a lot and in environments where your feet are exposed to puddles, dirt or other undesirable elements. Allbirds recommends removing the laces and insoles from your shoes, then washing them in cold water with a gentle detergent. However, there is a caveat when it comes to the Wool Runners. The more you wash your shoes, the faster the material starts looking worn-out. This is especially true for the lighter shades. Over a couple of months and washes, the Wool Runners in Natural White, which are some of our best white sneakers, started to stretch (especially around the toe) and the color gradually became more dull and less white.

And one more thing: Never put your Allbirds in the dryer! One of our editors accidentally threw his Tree Runners in the dryer, and they came out looking just fine, but there are horror stories of Wool Runners post-dryer being completely ruined.

The first decision to make is whether you’re looking for a sneaker or something a little different. Allbirds produces seven types of sneakers — Runners, Dashers, Toppers, Skippers, Pipers, Trail Runners, Mizzles and Flyers — along with three other styles: Loungers, Dwellers and Breezers.

Tree Toppers

The eight sneaker variants differ in a few key ways, the main distinguisher being material. The Tree Toppers and Tree Skippers are basically low-cut and high-top versions of the same sneakers. The Tree Skippers are extremely lightweight and perfect for summer. The Tree Toppers are pricier, but we’re big fans of the stylish high-top. Both shoes feature a slightly flatter sole and wider toe box, giving your foot more space but less support.

The Wool Runners and Tree Runners are Allbirds’ classic styles, and some of the most comfortable sneakers out there. The sneakers are particularly flexible and supportive, and truly engineered for all-day comfort. They’re the perfect type of shoe for city trekking, day trips or long walks. If you’re not sure which material to opt for, wool is softer and better for colder climates, while the Tree is breezier and better for warmer climates.

The Mizzles are a take on the Wool Runners that features natural rubber treads and the brand’s own Puddle Guard technology. Available in both normal and high-top versions, the wool keeps your feet warm, while the shoe’s design ensures your foot doesn’t get too wet — though Allbirds makes sure to emphasize that these aren’t waterproof. They’re perfect for anyone who’s willing to spend a little more to make a sneaker purchase go further and last longer (or, of course, if you live in a colder, wetter climate).

If you’re looking for a low-cut shoe perfect for running errands around town, the Pipers are the shoe for you. The super-stylish and minimalist shoe can pair with any outfit and be a true everyday sneaker.

If you’re in need of a running shoe, Allbirds has you covered with its new Tree Dashers. With a one-piece upper knitted from FSC-certified eucalyptus tree fibers and a dual-density SweetFoam midsole, these shoes are the perfect balance between comfort and performance. We tested them when they launched last year and loved the support and flexibility they provide. You can read our full Women’s Tree Dashers review here.

And if you like to take your runs to the mountains, check out Allbirds’ Trail Runners, which are super-durable and provide excellent stability and traction so you can focus on your run. Plus, they feature a water-repellent finish to help keep your feet dry.

Available in both women’s and men’s styles, Allbirds’ Tree Flyers are the brand’s ultimate long-distance running shoe. They contain all the necessary specs to make them appropriate for running long distances, from a cushion-y footbed with plenty of flexibility to breathable materials conducive to high-intensity and high-impact activity — and they look good while doing it.

If you’re looking for ultimate comfort, the Loungers are the way to go. Available in both men’s and women’s styles, they’re the perfect shoe to slip on and off for running errands or any number of day-to-day tasks. They’re less supportive than the sneakers, however, so don’t choose them if you’re looking to go on demanding day trips or long walks. Reviewers say they feel “like wearing a super-comfy pair of socks” everywhere they go, and that they hold up great in both hot and cold weather.

The Breezers are a classic flat, available in one style (but a ton of super-fun colors). They’re perfect if you’re looking for something more work-appropriate than a sneaker.

When it comes to sizing, be sure to size up. Allbirds says that most customers choose to size up in every style except for the Tree Runners, which we would also recommend. Luckily, Allbirds offers a no-questions-asked 30-day trial period, when you can return or exchange your shoes for free.

An ultra-cozy slipper, the Allbirds Dwellers are perfect for a lazy day around the house.

The Sugar Sliders and Sugar Zeffers are the newest items in the Allbirds lineup. Both shoes are made with sustainable sugarcane, which isn’t just sweeter for the environment but gives the shoes a bouncy feel and lots of cushioning that makes them excellent for all your on-the-go needs.

If you haven’t been able to tell by now — absolutely. The comfort and style combined with high-quality materials are something you can’t find in other sneakers.

The only thing to be cautious of, particularly with the Wool Runners, is that the wear you get out of them over their lifetime might not be as long as what you would get out of typical running shoes. The wool material is more delicate, susceptible to staining and starts to show wear after a couple of weeks. One way to counter this is not to wear them as your only pair of sneakers, but as a type of comfy sneaker shoe that lives alongside your grittier sneakers or running shoes. This way, you’ll be able to enjoy them longer.

Finding the right bra is no easy task. Fit and comfort are the most important components of a good one, and unearthing a brand that is able to achieve both — simultaneously — is much harder than it should be. Throw in our desire for something that is pretty too, and it’s nearly impossible.

If you’re like me, you’ve come across ads for ThirdLove while scrolling through Instagram. With taglines like “Ready for a bra that fits?” and “Bras and underwear for every body” and some eye-popping stats — its bestselling 24/7 Classic T-Shirt Bra has more than 48,000 positive reviews, and its 24/7 Perfect Coverage Bra had a waitlist of 1.3 million before it even launched — this intimates brand had me intrigued. Unlike most bra companies, ThirdLove offers half-cup sizes and an online quiz to help you find your perfect fit.

Like many women in America, I have long been in a bra funk. Backstory: I’ve been wearing the same bra size since high school. In the two decades that have followed, things have changed — pregnancies resulting in weight gains and losses, not to mention nursing multiple babies — and as a result, my 34C bras no longer work for me. Gaping cups, back bands that ride up and pinching straps are among my ill-fitting complaints.

ThirdLove's 24/7 Classic T-Shirt Bra

So, I tried out ThirdLove’s “Fit Finder” quiz, which, FYI, more than 16 million women have taken since the brand was founded eight years ago. The 10-question process took a little more than a minute and included disclosing my standard size, where my bras are typically from, how my cups fit lately (do they gape? Do they overflow a little or a lot?), what hook I typically wear my bra on and my breast shape (there were nine shapes to choose from). At the end, it was revealed that my correct size was a 36B½. I was…skeptical. I’m a 34C.

And then my 24/7 Classic T-Shirt Bra arrived in a 36B½ and not only did it fit perfectly — seriously, it’s the best-fitting bra I’ve ever worn — but it’s also ridiculously comfortable. I literally gasped when I put it on because it’s that wonderful. To say I’m astounded that this online quiz was super accurate would be an understatement. The best part? The bra is pretty too.

“Women are no longer accepting the plastic versions of the female form that we were spoon-fed by brands for so many years,” ThirdLove founder Heidi Zak explains to CNN Underscored. “We currently carry the most sizes in the industry, at 80 sizes from cups AA to I and band sizes 30 to 48, and we’re not stopping there. We want every woman to have a perfectly fitting bra.”

Beyond the perfect fit, ThirdLove’s bras are all tagless, have foam-padded hook-and-eye closures (no scratching!) and are chock-full of support — but not in a clunky, over-the-shoulder-boulder-holder type of way. Instead, the brand is churning out beautiful, silhouette-uplifting designs that flatter and emphasize your natural cleavage, no matter how big or small that cleavage is. We had several additional reviewers try the bras in sizes ranging from 32H to 34A½, and our verdict was unanimous in terms of support and comfort.

If you’re like me and find yourself in a bra rut, take ThirdLove’s Fit Finder quiz ASAP and treat yourself to one of the brand’s truly lovely wares. I’ve detailed my favorites below, all of which are worth the investment.

24/7 Classic T-Shirt Bra

Meet the bra that made the ThirdLove name. With nearly 49,000 reviews and a solid 4.5-star ranking, the bra is available in a whopping 80 sizes (from bands 30 to 48 and cups AA to I) and nine colors like ultramarine, a soft pink and sultry taupe.

Stats aside, what makes this bra the brand’s marquee is the second-skin fit, the incredibly soft micro jersey and the beautiful design (seriously, the pleated straps are so pretty). Made with ultra-thin memory foam cups that seemingly form to your body, this bra’s name is on point because you’re going to be wearing it 24/7.

24/7 Classic Strapless Bra

Edged with silicone on top and bottom to stay in place, this strapless wonder does just that — it stays put without any pulling or tugging. Each bra also comes with two sets of removable straps (clear and the color of the bra) that can be worn multiple ways — halter, one-shoulder, straight or crossed in the back. Now, that’s some versatility.

24/7 Classic Uplift Plunge Bra

If you’re a lover of deep V-neck T-shirts, then meet your new favorite bra. Lined with removable padding, Third Love’s version of a push-up bra enhances and emphasizes your natural cleavage, thanks to the plunging design and that sheer mesh overlay.

24/7 Lace Contour Plunge Bra

Similar to the Classic Uplift Plunge Bra in design — the V-neckline is ever present, as is the removable padding — this bra features a super-gorgeous layer of delicate lace on the front. Available in five colorways and sizes AA to I, the Lace Contour Plunge marries the 24/7 comfort with an elevated aesthetic.

I know, I know, when you hear the word “wireless” you tend to envision droopy breasts in a flimsy fabric. But this wireless bra defies the norm, thanks to the molded cups that not only support your breasts but also lift them up.

A gorgeous pair of underwear to match your Lace Plunge, this has a full-coverage bottom and features a beautiful feather design.

Like the Feather Lace Bikini, this thong looks delicate but is actually a lace workhorse — you can wear these over and over with nary a rip or pill.

Comfort Stretch Bikini

If the 24/7 Classic T-Shirt Bra is ThirdLove’s essential bra, the Comfort Stretch line is the essential underwear. Made of nylon and spandex, the no-show bikini is paper thin and stitch-free for a second-skin feel on your body. Available in eight colorways, the underwear comes in sizes XS to 3X.

Comfort Stretch Thong

Comfort Stretch also comes in a thong, which has a midrise in front and the same ultra-thin composition.

For those days when you need more coverage — albeit without a VPL (visible panty line) — you’ll want the high brief, which has smooth seams to prevent bunching or digging.

This set comes with ThirdLove’s luxuriously soft and cozy French Terry Shorts and French Terry Sweatshirt. This combo is perfect for a lazy day on the couch or taking those casual Friday video calls.

These camis will be your new go-to, with their super-soft material and perfect length that ensures they never become untucked.

Crafted with super-soft woven cotton, this set includes a pajama button-down shirt, pants and a sleep mask so you can sleep in perfect comfort.

Electric vehicle credits just completely changed. Here's what it means for car buyers

Washington, DC (CNN Business)The newly signed Inflation Reduction Act will have big implications for electric vehicle buyers. Some popular electric vehicles may become eligible for a tax credit once again, while other cars that were eligible this month will not be for the foreseeable future. Here's what you need to know as a consumer.

The old credit offered $7,500 for new electric vehicle buyers until their automaker hit a 200,000 limit for available tax credits. Plug-in hybrid buyers received a smaller credit.
The Inflation Reduction Act's new credit immediately replaces the prior system and removes the 200,000 limit, but it creates new restrictions that are being phased in related to assembly, batteries, and supply chains. Plug-in hybrids will continue to be eligible for a partial credit.
The new law also imposes new restrictions on the price of vehicles, as well as limits on the income of the buyer.
How can I qualify for the tax credit?
There are plenty of stringent requirements for electric vehicles to receive the tax credit under the new law, which fully takes effect on January 1, 2023. Vehicles must be assembled in North America. Much of their battery components and battery minerals production must be in North America. Beginning in 2023, 40% of the critical minerals used to create a vehicle's battery must be extracted or processed in the United States, or a country that has a free trade deal with the US, for the vehicle to qualify. By 2027, that number will rise to 80% of the battery minerals. The battery component requirement calls for 50% to be manufactured or assembled in North America starting in 2023 and 60% in 2024 and 2025. That number will gradually grow to 100% in 2029.
Under the new credit system, the MSRP of a pickup or SUV must not be over $80,000, and other vehicles like sedans must not surpass $55,000. A buyer's income must not exceed $150,000 if single, $225,000 if the head of a household, or $300,000 if married.
Buyers purchasing a used electric vehicle or plug-in hybrid can for the first time receive as much as $4,000.
You also must purchase a vehicle before December 31, 2032.
How large is the tax credit?
New vehicles are eligible for as much as $7,500, provided their final assembly happens in North America. Half of the credit — $3,750 — depends on meeting the battery minerals requirement, and the other half depends on the battery component requirement.
There is a new credit for some buyers who purchase a used electric vehicle of up to $4,000. The credit may not exceed 30% of the vehicle's sale price.
What vehicles are eligible to receive the $7,500 tax credit?
No electric vehicles currently available for purchase will qualify for the full tax credit when sourcing requirements go into effect in 2023, according to the Alliance for Automotive Innovation, which represents automakers like Ford, GM, Hyundai, Toyota and Volkswagen. The new tax credit significantly reduces how many vehicles are eligible. Seventy percent of electric, hybrid and fuel cell vehicles eligible for purchase in the US are now ineligible for any credit, including partial, according to the trade group.
Popular electric models like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 will lose their eligibility under the new rules unless manufacturers make changes like where the vehicles are assembled.
Teslas, including the popular Model 3 and Y, was ineligible for a credit under the past structure since Jan. 2020, when the company reached the previous 200,000-vehicle limit per automaker. However, that limit will lift on Jan. 1, 2023, and Teslas will once again qualify for a tax credit, provided the company meets all other new requirements.
Consumers can enter a vehicle's vehicle identification number into a US Department of Transportation website to see where its final assembly occurs to determine if the vehicle is eligible for tax credit under the new law.
Are there any exceptions?
Some electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids remain eligible until year's end due to a quirk in the bill. The North American assembly provision took effect when Biden signed the bill, but nothing else. Consumers interested in electric vehicles manufactured in North America may want to consider a purchase before January 1, when the more demanding requirements begin.
Nissan confirmed to CNN Business that the Leaf will remain eligible for the full credit through the end of 2022. Volvo expects the S60 Recharge to continue to qualify to year's end given guidance from the Department of Energy.
The Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV is expected by the automaker to be eligible until year's end, but not the EQS sedan because, unlike the SUV, it is not assembled in the United States. BMW says the X5 plug-in hybrid and 3-series plug-in hybrid will both be eligible for the rest of 2022.
Ford says its electric and plug-in vehicles, including the Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning and Escape plug-in hybrid will be eligible for the rest of the year.
These vehicles would need to be delivered by year's end.
Rivian vehicles are made in North America, but any new orders placed in the final months of the year are unlikely to get the credit as the automaker has an order backlog that exceeds its production goal for the year, so customers wouldn't take delivery before 2023.
Automakers and consumers are in a state of limbo for 2023 as the government finalizes the tax credit. It's unclear, for example, how the government will determine if a vehicle meets the battery minerals and battery component thresholds. Ultimately, the IRS will provide a list of vehicles to consumers that shows how much money they're eligible to receive.
Why are there so many more restrictions?
Sen. Joe Manchin, a critical vote, had concerns about US reliance on foreign countries for electric vehicle components. Manchin noted that the US built its own gas-powered vehicles and engines, suggesting the country should be able to do the same with electric vehicles and batteries. The tax credits may incentive automakers to shift battery metals extraction and processing, as well as vehicle assembly, to North America. Some experts have cautioned about national security risks associated with the reliance on foreign countries for electric vehicles.
If I find an eligible vehicle, how soon can I get the tax credit money?
Initially, buyers will need to wait to receive the tax credit when they file their taxes. But starting in January 1, 2024, electric vehicle buyers will be able to receive the money immediately, at the point of sale, if they agree to transfer the credit to their dealership.
